We woke up early and packed our big boy off for his first day of Kindergarten today. We are so excited to see how much he's grown. He was so super excited to be in class too. I can't wait to hear all about his day when I pick him up today.

Card Games
On Father's Day, Matt sat down with the kids and taught them how to play war with cards. Connor and Cana had a blast sitting and playing it together even after Matt was done.

a gift for a boy
Uncle Taylor & Aunt Jamie brought home the best kind of gift for a boy....a rock that needed to be smashed open. Matt and Connor sat down and worked on it for a while. In the end, Matt had to give it a good whack just to get it open, but Connor still had a blast.

serious problems
Every morning, before doing anything else, Connor is supposed to make his bed and turn off his nightlight. This morning, he comes up to me, very serious, and says "Mom, I can't make my bed because Scout doesn't want the covers on."
When I told him to make the bed and put Scout on top of it, he informed me that Scout really doesn't want to be on the covers either, and he's really close to falling asleep.
In the end, I told him he could make his bed around Scout and that would be sufficient.

Convo with dad
Connor: Will you buy me [random item]?
Dad: No. You don't need it and its a waste of money.
Connor: I might need it when I'm grown up.
Dad: Then you'll have a job and you can buy it with your own money.
Connor: I'm not going to have a job cuz I'll be in college and college doesn't have money.
Dad: Well you might need a job to pay for college cuz college costs money.
Connor: Well maybe I can use the money I saved from when I was a kid.
Dad: You'll probably have spent it all by then.
Connor: Nope.

not my baby anymore
Connor is jumping right into being a big boy. He has his VERY FIRST LOOSE tooth! I can't believe he is already getting to the toothless stage! Poor kid is a bit freaked out about it, but he's excited at the prospect of the tooth fairy. haha

basket
Matt decided he was going to make a basket out of dead cana lily stalks in the backyard...turns out he did a pretty good job.
change
We're at the mall today and Connor asked me if I had any change for the fountain, so I gave him a few pennies and dimes that I had on me. About 5 minutes later, Cana and I go to the fountain to meet Connor and Matt and Connor still has all the coins in his hand. He can't seem to grasp the idea why he would throw his money into the fountain where he can't get it back. In the end, Cana promised to give him some more coins when we got home to make up for it. Though the little weasel managed to convince her to give him one more coin than what he had in his hand.

gingerbread house
Cana had a great idea to make a gingerbread house with Connor this year. Having made them before, I wasn't even a little interested in doing it with them, (as anyone who has done one should know) but since Michaels was clearing them out for $2, I figured I would let her have at it.
Needless to say, it didn't go as she planned...

reading
Connor is getting better and better at reading every day. He and Matt have been practicing reading a little bit everyday. He's moving into reading 6 and 7 letter words now, which is awesome! He still has a hard time figuring out which sound vowels make, but he's learning. We are so proud of him!
photo shoot by dad
Matt had some fun playing around with the camera with Connor a few nights ago. Here are some of the shots
love
Connor came home from Party City on Saturday with a heart shaped sucker in his hand and gave it to me. He told me "Mama, I got this for you so you would always know I love you with all my heart"
talk about melting my heart.
for the next 24 hours, he must have asked me a dozen times, "why aren't you eating this?!?" Matt had to explain that the sucker meant more to me because he gave it to me than the candy it contained.

my literal boy
An example of how literal my son is:
Connor: When you're dead you go under the ground.
Me: Yes, they put your body underground.
Connor: Your body?! Not your head?!
Me: Yes, your head too.
Connor: Both of them?! Do they cut your head off and put it next to your body?!
Me: No, its your whole body.
Connor: Do they cut off other parts like your arms and your legs?
Me: No.

literal
So I'm making some cupcakes and Connor asks if he can have some of the batter. I told him no, because I could still see food on his plate. So he goes over to the table and positions his water bottle in front of the food so that I wouldn't be able to "see" the food on his plate anymore.

love
yesterday we were in the store and I told Connor I would buy him some little thing that he had asked for. He looked at me and said, "I love you so much Mom. Before I only loved you a little, but now I love you a lot."
